Trading Places...Classes

In class we started watching the movie "Trading Places". I have never seen or even heard of this movie before, but from the start of it, it seems very interesting. Eddie Murphy's character is by far my favorite. I liked when he was first given the house and the way he reacted was to steal anything that he could make money off of. He just could not figure out why the rich men were giving him all those nice things. It like he was expecting them to call the cops on him again.
In the time of the movie it seemed like there was only a high class and a low class. The is another thing we talked about and one thing i found weird was that the high class and the low class did not list any jobs. Once I thought about it a little I realized that the middle class is sometimes the only ones working. Most of the high class does not have to work because they either inherit their money, or do the smallest thing and make millions. The man who invented the plastic piece on the end of a shoe string made so much money off that piece of plastic. All he had to do was think of the simplest thing and now he doesn't really have to do anything.
The middle class on the other hand get the dirty jobs such as teaching, nursing, or managing businesses. I would have to say though, it feels good to know that the money was earned by teaching the youth, helping to heal the sick, or operating a business and possible offering other jobs.

Brain Fart

I want to start off this blog by saying that I realized while we were discussing assignment two during class that I interpreted the whole reading wrong. I did not read over the questions carefully and comprehend what they were asking. It was brought up in class that "Legally Blonde"was a good example for a dominant ideology. At first I felt like I fit in with the stereotype that most blondes are dumb, but once I figured out what I did wrong I realized that their are other examples of dominant ideology. I agree one hundred percent. Not only do I love that movie, but they way that she stands strong in her beliefs and never gives up shows us that "Go woman" attitude. At first I felt like I fit in with the stereotype that most blondes are dumb, but once I figured out what I did wrong I realized that their are other examples of dominant ideology. Another example that I thought of after our discussion in class was the movie "Coach Carter". I think "Coach Carter" portrays to the dominant effect of racism. In the movie the athletes do not do their homework or classwork and expect to get whatever they want since they are athletes. They live in the bad part of town and none of the whites have any respect for them. Their coach teaches them lessons about life and they learn from him how to handle the racists comments and acts that people are doing to them. By the end of the movie the athletes have grown into young men, and prove to white people that even though their skin is different, they are still human.

Now to the social acceptance video. It was probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Okay so it wasn't that bad, but i just can't believe that they use to show that to parents at PTA meetings. I felt so bad for the girl that was not invited to the party, especially because her mom didn't even have any hope that she would ever fit in. Times have changed so much that if someone was not invited to a party, he or she would find something else to do with someone else that was most likely not invited either.

The Big Bang

In class I experienced the first episode of The Big Bang Theory. I do not really watch television that much so I would have to say it was a pretty entertaining show. One question that I have is why are nerds considered nerds? Seeing how in the end they were the ones with the typical reflection of a "popular" person. When they went to confront her ex-boyfriend about her TV, they came out with no pants. They should have just laughed in Kurt's face and say "at least we have the girl". Another question I have is Why do the blonds always get stuck being the popular dumb girls? Being a blond myself it is kind of offensive, but I'm use to it. "Most blonde's are dumb" is a stereotype that this society has come up with, and I do not see it ever going away. Hopefully I will get to experience more episodes of The Big Bang Theory so that I can get a better understanding out of their humor.
